Revenge of Perot - Graphs from beyond the grave

Hilzoy over at ObWi has browsed through the latest from the Social Security Administration and found an interesting graph. The 75 year cost of the Bush tax cuts that Congress was considering making permanent (and has now extended to 2010) is more than three times the the 75 year shortfall in Social Security. This is followed up by another graph in the Post today that shows these same tax cuts are almost contributing the full amount that the defecit is rising by. That's followed up by a graph from the Center of Budget Policy and Priorities which shows that the only people benefiting from these dividend and capital gains tax cuts are people who make more than $1,000,000.00 per year. Seriously, less than $50,000 you save $11. Less than $100,000, $77. Less than $200,000, $228. Less than $1,000,000, $1,334. More than $1,000,000, $32,111. I suggest you take that refund and buy some lube.

Drive me to the moon and let me sleep behind the wheel

Just as a little side-light to the Patrick Kennedy thing going on. A NYT article from March 8th about the upsurge in Ambien related sleep-driving incidents. Apparently Kennedy had the stuff in his system at the time of the crash. The bad thing about this is that people are taking the pill and then blacking out. It's not that they're taking the pill and then driving. They take the pill with every intention of going to sleep, and come to later behind the wheel or worse, in the hospital. And yet, the morning after pill is the one that's dangerous. H/t to TPM, who also ask: 'if Kennedy is in the news, why isn't Hookergate?'

Smash and Grab (and Fly)!

Enjoy your very own virtual partical accelerator (on the web). Welcome to Hands-on-CERN! Get your learn on. And this is super sweet. One of the imaging crews from the Hyugens probe has made a simulation film of its descent to Titan based off the images they grabbed. Go to this site and select Titam Descent movie. It's Windows Media which bites, but totally worth the hassle. The site also has other movies and photos.
