The Continuing Decline Of Western Civilization

Anger is like a soul that gets things accomplished

So some crazed psychopath decided that I have to actually pay bills and bar tabs, and that I have to work for a living. Thank you so much, Capitalism! I could be doing great things, but no, I have to get a paycheck. Seriously, people who think that socialism would lead to people wasting away is an idiot. Do you have an idea how much work prevents me from getting done?! I could, for instance, have learned whether the question mark or the exclamation point comes first, but no time to check the Manual Of Style now! Boss needs his own jet, he's tired of the timeshare! No time for news, go back to ignorance pleabs, that's just the way we.. like.. it..

Everything has become clear to me now. I will return with more information as soon as I have completed my research.

UPDATE: All my Wampum devouring has been lost to the sands of microelectronics, other than what I posted. Sorry, I really don't have time to re-read everything again.

Things you should read, part one

Voting in the Koufax awards opened up last week. I seriously doubt many of you would be very interested in this, because it's basically a popularity contest amongst progressive blogs. It does serve an important role in recognizing, simply through the numerous nominations, the work of people who deserve a wider audience. But most of the categories probably don't matter that much, and are fairly un-illuminating anyway. Most humorous blog doesn't really show us anyone we didn't already know about, and the same goes for The Best Blogs. There may be a bit of interest here in the Best State and Local Blogs, where there are several KY blogs, and The Bluegrass Report is doing well in early voting.

The Best Post category is a little different. There are something like 222 nominations in this category, and everyone is worth a read. But I know you are short on time, so I've been reading all of them, and distilling them down to the ones (I feel) you would be most interested in, or need to read. These are in no particular order, and no, I'm not telling you who I'm voting for.

First, I'd like to take this space to point out, via Wampum, that State Governors have the ability to order their state National Guards home. George Wallace would do it, so should you. [talk about things I never thought I'd write]

Bag News Notes, with B&W photos of the Katrina aftermath. You will be shocked at what color and its absence does to your perception.

Big Brass Blog, on the foundations of progressive politics, and the conservative misreading of tolerance.

Booman Tribune, on Katrina, and the anger in the black communities.

The bluebird of happiness at Daily Kos, on violence against women.

Meteor Blades at Daily Kos, on the invasion of Iraq not being a mistake.

The Democracy Cell Project, on the triviality of our media.

Effect Measure, on the idea of biodefence.

Empire Burlesque, on Bush's crimes and the Establishment.

European Tribune, and the math of recycling and SUVs.

Lauren at Feministe, on feminism and the hijab.

Living the Scientific Life, on the Indonesian tsunami and it's connection to the Western World's love of shrimp.

Digby, on the absence of a revival in America.

Idyllopus, on redaction of our fallen heroes.

Legal Fiction, on the Outrage Industry.

So that's fourteen, and I'm just up to the K's (almost). There's soemthing between half and two thirds left to go, I'll finish up as soon as I can. And of course, just because i didn't list it here doesn't mean it isn't worth reading.
